Service Is The New Currency
Service Is the New Currency is a newsletter and industry breakfast series founded by Miriam Nabunya, exploring how service creates value for customers, employees, businesses, and society.
At its heart is a conviction: service is not a soft extra or a department. It is a visible expression of leadership, culture, and how we value people. It shows up in the time we respect, the friction we remove, the recognition we offer, and how we respond when things go wrong.
The series examines the connections behind those everyday moments: how speed can communicate care; how thoughtful personalisation can make people feel recognised rather than monitored; and how the conditions employees work under can become part of the experience customers receive. It asks what makes a business worth choosing, a workplace worth staying in, and a meeting place somewhere people feel they belong.
Rather than treating commercial success and human dignity as opposing goals, Service Is the New Currency explores how they can reinforce each other through trust, operational excellence, meaningful experiences, and leadership that takes responsibility for both people and results.
The newsletter: where the conversation began
The series began as a LinkedIn newsletter, drawing on lived observation and industry experience to interpret changes in service, culture, and leadership. It connects everyday encounters with larger questions about how we work, lead, and build organisations people trust.

The industry breakfasts: bringing the ideas into the room
The breakfasts extend that conversation into a shared space, bringing together people across hospitality, events, culture, and other service industries to exchange experiences, question established practices, and explore better ways forward.
Our first breakfast took place on 22 October 2026, in collaboration with Hitchhiker, Sentralen, and Sentralen Mat. In 2027, we aim to host one industry breakfast each quarter, with the newsletter continuing the conversation between gatherings.
